Participate in the Future

The future is not something that simply happens to us.

Artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies will profoundly influence the decades ahead.

But technology does not determine the future on its own.

The future will also be shaped by the choices people make about how technology is developed, who controls it, how its benefits are shared, how our societies adapt and ultimately what kind of world we want to live in.

Those choices should not belong only to governments, corporations, technologists or experts.

They concern all of us.

Humanity Forward therefore begins with a simple idea: Don't wait for the future. Participate in creating it.

Start without a blueprint

Participation does not require us to know exactly where we are going.

We don't.

And perhaps no one does.

We can still begin.

We can bring people together around important questions.

We can connect ideas that have developed separately.

We can challenge assumptions.

We can explore different possibilities.

We can create small experiments, learn from what works and what fails, and share what we discover so others can build upon it.

Think globally. Experiment practically.

The questions facing humanity are enormous.

But meaningful change often begins on a human scale.

A conversation.

A connection between two people.

A question nobody had asked.

An unexpected combination of ideas.

A small experiment.

A community willing to try something differently.

Humanity Forward wants to create an environment in which these things can happen - and a network through which successful ideas can travel.

We should be ambitious about the future we want while remaining humble about whether we know how to get there.

Everyone can participate

You do not need a title, degree or particular status to contribute to the conversation.

Expert knowledge matters enormously.

But so do experience, curiosity, creativity, practical ability, intuition and the willingness to listen and learn.

Humanity Forward is therefore not something you join simply because you agree with its principles.

It is something you participate in.

Ask a question.

Share an idea.

Challenge an assumption.

Make a connection.

Join an experiment - or start one.

Help somebody else move an idea forward.

Share what you learn so others can build upon it.

We cannot know whether the technological transformation ahead will ultimately lead to greater freedom, prosperity and human flourishing - or to greater inequality, dependency and concentration of power.

But simply waiting to find out is also a choice.

We choose to participate.

Not because we believe we already know the way.

But because the future of humanity is too important to leave entirely to someone else.
