Different Ideas, Shared Ideals

We don't have to think alike to move forward together.

Humanity Forward is not built around a political ideology, religion, philosophy or single vision of how society should be organized.

We actively welcome different perspectives.

People from different cultures, professions, disciplines, political traditions, philosophical backgrounds and spiritual perspectives often look at the same question and see something different.

That difference is valuable.

We do not bring people together to make them agree.

We bring them together to discover what others may see that they cannot see themselves.

Understanding is not the same as agreeing.

Every person is shaped by different experiences, knowledge, cultures, circumstances, fears and hopes. Understanding where an idea comes from does not require us to accept that idea as true.

Nor does openness mean that every idea is equally valuable.

Ideas should be questioned, challenged and tested.

Disagreement is not a failure of dialogue. Respectful disagreement can be one of its greatest strengths.

Shared ideals

Our openness does have a foundation.

We believe in human dignity, individual freedom and the equal fundamental rights of every human being.

Freedom cannot reasonably be used as an argument for taking those same fundamental freedoms away from others.

Within that foundation, however, there should be the widest possible space for people to think, question, disagree and explore.

Because humanity's greatest challenges are unlikely to be solved by one group of people who all think alike.

They are more likely to be understood when different ways of seeing the world meet.

We don't need the same ideas.

We need enough shared ideals to continue the conversation and build together.

Different in our thinking. Connected by what we hope humanity can become.
